FUNKE Hackathon 2017
On the weekend of 7. - 9. September 2017, Funke Digital TV Guide GmbH was part of the Funke Digital Hackathon 2017, held at the Funke Digital offices on Friedrichstraße in Berlin. The event was in cooperation with next media accelerator and the Google News Lab.
More than 70 people from 10 different countries -- entrepreneurs, technologists, developers and media professionals -- formed teams to compete in the Hackathon, whose theme was "Let the Machines Speak." Together the teams leveraged machine intelligence and voice recognition capabilities to create cool, useful apps with innovative ways to access and interact with content.
On the final day, teams presented 14 different products that were aligned with the theme, including assistants for the elderly during emergencies, to setting up personal reminders and helping speed up online payments.
We want to recognize here the winner of the FUNKE Content Discovery API Prize: the MIND FUNK project!
Incorporating the FUNKE Content Discovery API, the winning team developed an Alexa skill that allows users to create their own personalized content feed. It reads news items that are of interest to the user, and if there are related videos, will play them on the TV. (It will even switch on the TV if necessary.)
In view of the current trends of Smart Homes and the Internet of Things, we see this as a glimpse of the future, and this is why we selected MIND FUNK as our winner.
Team members: Alexander Herr, Andreas Ladendor, Peter Marhewka, Konrad Wohlrab, Mathias Rhein, Christian Jacobs, Axel Kannenberg
For their effort, the winners received EUR 300 in Amazon gift cards.
A big THANK YOU to all participants of this year's Hackathon! Your enthusiasm fuels exploration of the fascinating results that are possible when media and technology interact.
